DIY 06: Chalkboard Coasters

December 8th, 2012 | Posted by Becki Peckham in 12 DIY's Of Christmas | DIY | Holidays/Seasons | Home Renovation

I saw these on Pinterest (again) and thought they would make excellent DIY gifts! They’re inexpensive, fun to use and great for friends and family who love to entertain.

- Square ceramic tiles
- Sandpaper
- Spray primer
- Chalkboard spray paint
- Cork or felt
- Hot glue gun
- Chalk
- Ribbon or twine

Step 1: Light sanding
If your tiles are shiny, rough them up a little with sand paper so the paint will adhere.

Step 2: Prime
Prime the tiles with your spray primer and let dry.

Step 3: Paint
Apply three coats of chalkboard spray paint to the tiles (making sure to cover the sides). Follow the instructions on the can for drying time between coats.

Step 4: Backing
Once the tiles have dried for over 24 hours, cut pieces of felt or cork to fit the under side of the tiles and hot glue in place.

Step 5: Wrapping
Stack the coasters and tie a pretty piece of ribbon or twine of your choice around them. You can also stick a piece of white or coloured chalk under the ribbon. Wrap them up and give them to a friend!

VERY nice gift idea!!! I like that they are practical, I have also seen chalkboard striped wine glasses so you can write each persons name on the glass. This is appealing to me, I might give it a try! Thanks for the share.
