DIY 06: Chalkboard Coasters
December 8th, 2012 | Posted by in 12 DIY's Of Christmas | DIY | Holidays/Seasons | Home RenovationI saw these on Pinterest (again) and thought they would make excellent DIY gifts! They’re inexpensive, fun to use and great for friends and family who love to entertain.
Supplies
- Square ceramic tiles
- Sandpaper
- Spray primer
- Chalkboard spray paint
- Cork or felt
- Hot glue gun
- Chalk
- Ribbon or twine
Step 1: Light sanding
If your tiles are shiny, rough them up a little with sand paper so the paint will adhere.
Step 2: Prime
Prime the tiles with your spray primer and let dry.
Step 3: Paint
Apply three coats of chalkboard spray paint to the tiles (making sure to cover the sides). Follow the instructions on the can for drying time between coats.
Step 4: Backing
Once the tiles have dried for over 24 hours, cut pieces of felt or cork to fit the under side of the tiles and hot glue in place.
Step 5: Wrapping
Stack the coasters and tie a pretty piece of ribbon or twine of your choice around them. You can also stick a piece of white or coloured chalk under the ribbon. Wrap them up and give them to a friend!

VERY nice gift idea!!! I like that they are practical, I have also seen chalkboard striped wine glasses so you can write each persons name on the glass. This is appealing to me, I might give it a try! Thanks for the share.
Thanks! I thought they were cute, and yes very practical. Thats adorable and such a good idea with the wine glasses! Send us a picture if you try it!
